RULES, REGULATIONS AND RACE PROCEDURES

GENERAL RACE REGULATIONS

ALL VEHICLES MUST PASS TECHNICAL INSPECTION BEFORE ANY RUNS ARE MADE

NO DELAY BOXES ALLOWED ON ANY COMPETITION VEHICLE

1. The procedures and regulations set forth in this document shall be followed in all racing events. These are a guide toward a universal racing goal, and interpretation will be made by event director. It is the racers responsibility to be aware of the contents of this document. The event director’s decision shall be final in all cases.

2. Sand Drags, unlike asphalt drags, are not designed to be run on hard surfaces. In building or preparing a vehicle to race, a competitor should keep in mind that there may be holes at the stating line and also ridges, ruts and uneven surfaces down track. These are not intended to make the race more difficult but are part of the sport. Every reasonable effort to maintain the racing surface to its optimum level will be taken.

3. Drivers must be at least 16 years of age and have proper identification at the time of competition.

4. Time between rounds shall be set by the event director.

5. In cases of dual infractions on a competitive run, the vehicle making the worst infraction will be disqualified. If infractions are of an equal rank, the first infraction shall be disqualified.

6. In the event of a duel red start, the first, not the worst, to red light will be disqualified.

7. In cases where both opponents in a race, or a driver on a single run should have mechanical difficulties prior to the start, every effort will be made to determine a winner and a loser of the contest. When possible, this will include the allowance of a reasonable time period for the contestants to make repairs and to complete the race. However, if both vehicles break down or do not finish the race, both will be disqualified.

8. On any run of a handicap eliminator, if both vehicles break out, the vehicle breaking out the least will be declared the winner. If both vehicles break out the same amount, the first to finish will be declared the winner.

9. No refueling is permitted once the engine has been started for a competitive run.

10. All machines will be called to the staging area by the announcer. Only one call is required. Five minutes after the first call, any machine not appearing in the staging area will be subject for disqualification. If you are experiencing difficulties getting to the staging lanes, please notify an official and we will allow an appropriate amount of time for you.

11. Any vehicle left unattended in the staging lanes may be disqualified.

12. Odd number lanes will be pulled for the left lane, even for the right. In the event of more vehicles in one lane, lane choice will be determined by coin toss.

13. Bye-runs will be determined by draw of cards. In the event of even number of vehicles in a round of competition, the vehicle pulled for the bye-run will have lane choice.

14. Once a vehicle reaches the front of the staging lanes for a run, it must be prepared to start and race. A vehicle must stage under its own power. No dial-ins may be changed after vehicle has left the head of the staging lanes. After proper staging, it is not allowed to restage for a second attempt.

15. Failure to stage when so instructed by the starter, over staging or leaving the starting line before the timing system is activated will result in no E.T. for that run and disqualification.

16. If a vehicle is properly equipped with starter, battery etc., but will momentarily not start, one chance will be given to start the vehicle in the lanes; however, it must be repaired before the next round.

17. All vehicles must line up straight with the strip when making a run. No angled starts.

18. Any vehicle classified wrong must be reclassified before class eliminations or be disqualified.

19. During eliminations, any vehicle starting a run before the tree is activated will be automatically disqualified. Except, if both leave early, it will constitute a re-run.

20. In determining lane boundary crossing violations, it is considered a disqualification when any portion of the vehicle crosses center of the track. Contact with guard railing, barriers, or any other track fixture (i.e. “Christmas Tree,” Timing Equipment, Cones, etc.) is grounds for disqualification.

21. In situations where a driver is making a single run in eliminations, he is considered the automatic winner once he stages under power and receives the start. Lane boundary line crossing and red light disqualification rules do not apply on single runs.

22. No machine will be permitted to use the strip for return purposes. Violation will result in disqualification.

23. All contestants must turn off at the end of the strip and keep their speed to a minimum on the return road and in the pit area. Violation will result in disqualification.

24. Don’t leave vehicles unattended while running.

25. If an official observes any inadequacy in a competitor’s race vehicle, equipment, or conduct, the official may take whatever action he deems necessary to correct such inadequacy.

26. Competition regulations are presented in a positive manner. Final translation and rule changes are completely the option of the event director.

27. It is the racers’ responsibility to keep his vehicle legal and correctly classed, at all times. If a vehicle passes tech entry inspection it is not automatically declared legal.

28. There will be no consumption of alcohol by any driver of any vehicle until that person has completed competition for that day!!

29. Event director may waive, amend or modify any rule at any time for any single occurrence, for any good cause.

30. These rules and regulations are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants or spectators. These rules express no implied warranty or safety in any way.

31. In the event that a situation arises, that is not covered in these abbreviated rules, we will use an IHRA or NHRA rule book to find a rule that most closely parallels the situation at hand.

Rules and Procedures

1. If you run 4.99 or quicker, you MUST wear a helmet.

2. If you run 4.69 or quicker, you are required to have at a minimum of a 6 point roll bar.

3. Must be a street legal vehicle.
Full Bodied Vehicle, O.E.M. vehicle integrity must be retained (no cut up or removed body panels, glass or doors, removed pickup tailgates permitted).

Full tube chassis prohibited, must retain factory O.E.M. chassis. Aftermarket bolt on suspension modifications permitted. Back half suspension modifications (ladder bar/4 link) are permitted.

Stock firewall in stock location mandatory.

Stock appearing dash and interior mandatory, race seats w/shoulder harnesses and roll bars/cages permitted. Basic electrical accessories (such as lighting, w/s wipers) must be retained. NO STRIPPED VEHICLES….

4. ALL vehicles must be driven to the staging lanes and from the end of the track into the pits. Towing is grounds for disqualification.

5. D.O.T. Tires
Tires must have D.O.T. approved stamping on sidewall, NO CUT TIRES….

6. Full Exhaust
Must be mufflers and pipes exiting behind and/or outside the rear most passenger carrying compartment. Diesels are not required to have mufflers, however they must retain a full exhaust system as stated above, NO THROUGH THE HOOD STACKS….

7. Engine

Must be automotive or light truck style internal combustion gasoline or diesel powered (no exotic fuels, i.e. alcohol, nitromethane). Power adders such as N2O and/or propane are permitted.

8. Transmission & Transfer Case
Any production style manual or automatic transmission and transfer case is permitted. Aftermarket “clutchless” or “planetary” transmissions prohibited, transfer cases must have the capability to be shifted between 2wd/4wd and high/low range either manually or electrically. Aftermarket transfer cases that are not range or mode selectable without disassembly are prohibited.

9. Vehicle and Driver
Only one (1) vehicle with one (1) driver on the list at a time. These must remain together as a pair, if the driver changes vehicles he will have to drop off the list and start at the beginning.

10.Contested Events
This will take place during the Friday Night Beanfield Truck Races, it will not be contested on any other events.

11.Call Outs/Challenges

a. Call outs need to be communicated to or in the presence of the race director (Josh Hostinsky for Gas, Daniel Yelinek for Diesel), and will be run in the order in which they are received.

b. You can challenge the next person above you on the list and/or the person below may challenge you.

c. A challenge can be made at any time via The Race Director in person or by contacting him through the Newtown Dragway Facebook Page.

d. The person being challenged has to meet the challenge at the next event as long as the challenge is made at least five (5) days prior the event. Challenges made within the five (5) days prior to, or during the event can be run at that event if the person challenged agrees, however he/she will not be required to run until the next event.

e. If a person cannot make the challenge for any reason (no show, broke, etc.) it will be considered a loss and the challenger will advance on the list.

f. If an event is missed you can drop up to 2 spots, your spot can only be taken if the below racer challenges the spot above you and the challenge is accepted. The race must take place that night for the spot to be given up.

g. All list challenges will be determined by one run on a .400 pro tree with the timing system of the track determining the winner, RED LIGHTS COUNT….

Although there is no way the above listed rules and procedures can cover all possible scenarios, it is intended as a basic guideline to establish a fun and competitive program.

If a situation arises that is not covered under the brief guidelines listed above, the Race Master and Track Personal will make all possible efforts to come up with a solution.
